The Campaign
The DefectSaab-Scania has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a defect which may be safety-related exists in early 1984 model year Saab 900, 900S and Turbo models (see below) and a limited number of late 1984 models.
These vehicles are being recalled by Saab-Scania of America, Inc. to reposition the electrical cable between the alternator and the starter so that it cannot rub or come in contact with the brake fluid pipe attached to the left inner wheelhouse. Damage to the cable insulation at this point could result in a short circuit and, possibly, a fire.

Recall Schedule:
This campaign does not require the distribution of special parts (see next section). Owner notification will begin soon after this S.I. is distributed. Owners of record will be notified with a letter and a claim form both of which are reproduced in this S.I. Attached to this S.I. is a computer printout of the affected vehicles in your dealership's service area.
NOTE! These vehicles are also included in Service Campaign 509. The safety recall notification letter refers to SC 509 and the work should be scheduled for the same appointment, if possible. See S.I. 05/85-761, Sec. 3, p. 86.
