Parking Lock Cable: Adjustments

PARK LOCK CABLE ADJUSTMENT





1. Put control shift lever in "P" (Park) position and turn ignition key to the LOCK position.
2. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder assembly.
3. Remove front cup holder/ashtray assembly to gain access to park lock cable assembly.





4. Using a small screwdriver, pick or awl lift lock tab on park lock cable assembly.
5. Depress control shift lever button and quickly release three times to move cable to initial position.
6. With one hand, insert key into ignition lock cylinder assembly and turn to the RUN position.





7. With other hand, depress park lock cylinder assembly toward control base slowly while repeatedly attempting to turn key to LOCK position from the RUN position.
8. Once the key can easily be turned to the LOCK position, depress lock tab on park lock cable assembly.

IMPORTANT: When lock tab is set, the slider position may change slightly.

9. Perform "Park Lock Cable Assembly Operation Inspection" procedure.
10. If automatic transaxle park lock cable does not pass inspection procedure, repeat steps 4 through 9 of the "Park Lock Cable Adjustment" procedure until it is properly adjusted.

IMPORTANT: If ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK position, lift up lock tab on park lock cable assembly. Push park lock cable assembly towards control base assembly until ignition key can be turned to the LOCK position. Refer to steps 4 through 9 of the Park Lock Cable Adjustment.

11. When park lock cable assembly is correctly adjusted, install front cup holder/ashtray assembly into console.
12. Perform Park Lock Cable Assembly Operation Inspection.
