Check/Replace Front Suspension Track Control Arm
Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
This is to inform you of the initiation of a recall campaign involving some 1992 model Volkswagen Cabriolet vehicles.
The vehicles affected are within the following vehicle identification number range:
WVW__515_NK0O7064 - WVW__515_NK010116
Defect Description
It is possible that in affected vehicles the front suspension track control arm in the vicinity of the forward bushing mounting hole may not have been properly welded.
Remedial Action
Check involved vehicle's track control arms for correct weld; if improperly welded, replace track control arm.
Customer Notification
Volkswagen United States, Inc. will inform all known owners of affected vehicles directly by first class mail on or about June 10, 1992. A sample copy of the owner notification letter is enclosed for your information.
Vehicle Allocation
Prior to owner notification, we will furnish you with a computer printed list of vehicles containing names and addresses of owners residing within your area of influence.
Note:
This listing includes names and addresses obtained from individual state motor vehicle registrations. Under the laws of some states, including regulations set forth by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, vehicle registration information may only be used for recall purposes. If used for any other reason, it would be a violation of state law.
Limitation on Sale or Lease of Certain Vehicles
Section 154(d) of the National Traffic and Motor Safety Act of 1966 mandates that dealers correct, prior to delivery for sale or lease, any vehicle which fails to comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or which contains a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety.
It is therefore mandatory that any vehicle in your inventory and affected by this recall be corrected prior to sale or lease.
Parts Supply
If a track control arm replacement is necessary, the part numbers of the required replacement parts are as follows:

Not all dealers may have received one of the affected vehicles. Therefore, only dealers showing a vehicle allocated to them will automatically receive one (1) replacement track control arm including associated parts. Additional parts must be ordered from your depot.

Additional Campaigns
Some of the affected vehicles may also be involved in an additional corrective action. If so, the respective action code has also been printed on the customer's authorization form. In the interest of minimizing customer inconvenience, please ensure that any such additional action is performed simultaneously upon the customer rendering the vehicle for service. For verification, always check your V-Crest system.
Campaign Authorization
In accordance with campaign procedures, Volkswagen United States, Inc. will mail notification letters including authorization forms to all known owners. If a customer inquires about the recall campaign but does not present an authorization form, please confirm, by accessing the V-Crest system or by contacting your Zone office, that the recall is applicable and, moreover, shows an open status before you commence work. If the recall is required, please prepare a blank campaign authorization form W 42 002 3010 and mail it back to VWUS.
Dealer Obligation
It is imperative that you schedule appointments with your customers on a priority basis. Please provide a copy of this communication to every person in your dealership who has recall-related responsibilities.
