Windshield Wiper System

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Always follow the instructions in the Repair Information exactly when disconnecting and connecting the battery (A). Refer to battery in engine compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair or battery in luggage compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

Removing

- Deactivate the APP function. Refer to => [ Wiper Motor Control Module, Deactivating Alternating Park Position Function ] Testing and Inspection.

- Let the wiper return to its park position and then turn off the ignition.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to battery in engine compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair or battery in luggage compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

• In order remove the wiper frame with linkage and the windshield wiper motor (V) , wiper arms and plenum chamber cover must be removed.

Wiper Frame with Linkage and Windshield Wiper Motor (V) , Removing

- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the wiper frame from the vehicle.

Installing

- Insert the wiper motor and control module into the openings - arrows - inside the linkage, into the wiper frame.






- Install the retaining plate - 1 - and the bolts - arrows -.






- Tighten the bolts - arrows - to the tightening specification given in the overview. Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper System Overview ] Windshield Wiper System Overview.

- Mount the motor crank - 4 - onto the windshield wiper motor shaft - 2 - so that the three points - 1 -, - 2 - and - 3 - are in a line.






- Tighten the motor crank - 2 - with the nut - 1 -.






- Tighten the nut - 1 - to the tightening specification given in the overview. Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper System Overview ] Windshield Wiper System Overview.

- Push the ball head - arrow - on the linkage - 1 - onto the motor crank.






- Install the wiper frame in reverse order.

- Tighten all threaded connections to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper System Overview ] Windshield Wiper System Overview.

- Connect the connector to the windshield wiper motor (V).

- Install the plenum chamber cover.

- Connect the battery. Refer to battery in engine compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair or battery in luggage compartment => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Install wiper arms. Refer to => [ Wiper Arms ] Service and Repair.
