Rear Cross-Member Bushing: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle, remove wheels, then the caliper and hang from spring with wire.
2. Remove support arm guards, bolts and nuts at front of support arms and bolts at rear of support arms.
3. Disconnect support arms at rear, then the propeller shaft at differential.
4. Position fixture 5972 and a jack underneath rear axle assembly, then remove bolts securing upper section of rear axle member to floor and lower rear axle slightly.
5. Replace front bushings using press tool 5344. Note orientation of bushings, Fig. 9.
6. Replace rear bushings using press tool 5352. Note orientation of bushings, Fig. 9.
7. Raise assembly and install lower attachment bolts and tighten to specifications.
8. Install propeller shaft bolts, then the front nuts and bolts in support arms. Tighten to specifications.
9. Tap in support arms at rear and tighten bolts to specifications, then install support arm guards, calipers and wheels.
