This Service Bulletin describes the operation of self-leveling shock absorbers and how to check their operation.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
The correct level for the shock absorber is pre-set and dependent partly on the load and stiffness of the suspension.
If the car sinks down after a few hours parked or during loading, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the shock absorber. However the permitted difference between left and right sides is max. 15 mm (19/32").
Self-leveling begins operation as soon as the car is driven, with the normal level being reached after driving a few miles.
If the car sinks below the set level when it is being driven this indicates gas or oil loss. At least one shock absorber is malfunctioning and must be replaced.
Note!
A light sweat of oil around the damper piston is the result of oil mist created during piston movement and does not indicate leakage.
