Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

1. Drain system of refrigerant.
2. Remove radiator upper mounting elements.
Apply masking tape to radiator member paintwork in front of screws holding frame between radiator and condenser.
3. Remove screws holding frame between radiator and condenser.
4. Remove/disconnect:
- grille
- pressostat connectors
- air baffle in front of condenser on right-hand side.
5. Jack up car. Remove air baffle between spoiler and radiator.
6. Disconnect/remove:
- condenser
- condenser, by pressing unit upward to free locating pins in lower radiator member.
- Tilt condenser forward and withdraw downward.
7. Measure quantity of oil remaining in original condenser. New condenser must be tilled with same quantity. If original condenser contains no oil, fill new unit with quantity as per specifications.
8. Transfer pressostats to new condenser. Use new seals. Tighten pressostats to 3.5 Nm (2.6 ft lb).
9. Install new seals under condenser.
10. Transfer rubber bushings on locating pins to new condenser.
11. Lower car.
Install new condenser.
Raise condenser until upper mounting is seated in frame.
Check that hood catch cable is not pinched. Press condenser upward and backward until locating pins with rubber bushings are inserted in mounting on radiator lower member.
12. Jack up car. Reconnect pipes. Use new seals in fittings. Tighten to 20 Nm (14.8 ft lb).
13. Install air baffle between spoiler and radiator.
14. Lower car.
15. Reconnect/install:
- pressostat connectors
- air baffle in front of condenser on right-hand side.
16. Install:
- frame. Remove masking tape protecting paintwork.
- upper mounting elements for radiator assembly.
17. Check operation of hood catch.
18. Fill system with refrigerant.
19. Test for leaks using leak detector 9511207.
20. Install grille.
