Brakes and Traction Control: Description and Operation
Brakes
Brake system
There are only a few differences from the previous system used on the X70.
The Central Electronic Module receives vehicle speed signal from the ABS sensors.
The brake sizes are 15" and 16", but the brake calipers are the same, only different holders. Version/market dependent.
The parking brake is mechanical and integrated into the rear brake discs.
48 tooth mechanical pulse wheel at the front, 48 tooth magnetic pulse wheel rear
Wheel spin monitoring
The monitoring system functions in the same way as for the X70. When one of these systems begins to function the driver is warned by a flashing control lamp and a message in the combined instrument panel display.
Fault messages, Diagnostics
The status of ABS, brake force distribution (EBD) and stability traction control is indicated via warning lamps and a text message displayed in the combined instrument panel.
This information is a primary aid for workshop personnel when fault-tracing. More thorough fault-tracing is carried out using VIDA.
