Replacing the oil and oil filter

Warning

Warning! Avoid prolonged skin exposure to oil.

- Extended and repeated contact with oil can cause skin to dry out. This can result in itchiness, dry skin, eczema and other skin complaints.
- Used oil is more dangerous than new oil.
- Used oil may contain contaminants that are a health risk.
- Avoid skin contact, especially with used engine oil.
- Use protective gloves if necessary.
- Avoid oil soaked rags and cloths.
- Wash thoroughly after skin contact with oil, especially before meals
- Use skin cream to prevent dryness.

Engine oil, draining
- Remove the drain plug.
- Replace the copper washer.
- Install the drain plug and tighten to 35 Nm.

Oil filter, removing




Remove the rear engine splashguard.
Use oil filter wrench 999 5679 Oil filter spanner 999 5679 Oil Filter Spanner.
Wipe up any oil spillage (use kitchen paper for example).
Remove the oil filter from the housing.
Clean the housing and the engine.

Oil filter, installing




Install the filter in the housing.
Install the housing on the sump. Use oil filter wrench 999 5679 Oil filter spanner 999 5679 Oil Filter Spanner.
Tighten with 25 Nm.
Install the engine splash guard.

Oil, filling
Top up oil. See:.

Final check
Start the engine and check for leakage.
Stop the engine and give the oil time to run down into the oil pan.
Then check the oil level. Top up if needed, but do not overfill.
Wipe the engine compartment clean. Make sure that the steering wheel and gear lever are clean.
