Cleaning evaporator

Assembling sprayer
Shake the odor treatment AC bottle well.

Connect:
- sprayer to the nozzle
- sprayer to compressed air.
- the bottle to the nozzle's hose connection.
Cleaning new evaporator
The evaporator shall be treated with odor remover before installing it in the car.
Place the evaporator in a basin. Treat the evaporator with the odor treatment AC. Turn the evaporator during treatment so that all external surfaces become coated with the agent. Ensure that the agent passes through the evaporator's cooling fins.
Lay the evaporator so that excess agent runs off.
Let the evaporator dry before installing it.
Install the dryer unit for the evaporator according to service bulletin 8-87-821 in connection with the evaporator change.
Install the evaporator.
Pressure sensor removal
Switch off the AC compressor by disconnecting the cable connection from the pressure switch in the engine compartment (see image).

Warming up the evaporator
Connect recirculation. Set the temperature regulation to maximum heat and the fan switch to maximum speed. All ventilation outlets should be fully open. If the defroster position has been selected the compressor is under override control and can start up. Run the engine at operating temperature for 20 minutes to expel all moisture from the evaporator.
Removing power unit or fan resistor
Applies to the 850, S70, V70(-00), V70XC(-00), C70(-05)
Remove glove compartment.
Applies to the S40(-04), V40
Remove soundproofing from under the glove compartment.
Applies to the 740(91-92), 940 with AC
Remove glove compartment and soundproofing.
Applies to the 740(91-92), 780(88-91), 940 with ECC
Remove glove compartment and soundproofing.
Applies to the 760(88-90), 960, S90, V90 with ECC
Remove glove compartment and soundproofing and fan motor.
Vacuum-cleaning the evaporator
Clean the evaporator as much as possible with vacuum-cleaner through the hole in the evaporator housing for the power unit/fan resistor.
Spraying the evaporator
Insert the spray nozzle in the evaporator housing through the opening for the power stage / blower resistor. Cover the hole with a cloth. Protect the interior trim of the car with cloths.
Warning! Wear safety goggles and protective gloves.
Direct the nozzle spray at the evaporator. Move nozzle backward and forward across evaporator while spraying to ensure that complete unit is treated with agent. Use the complete contents of container.
Install the power unit or fan resistor.

Install the glove compartment.

Drying the evaporator
Set the temperature selector control to maximum heat and select maximum blower speed using the blower switch. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run for two minutes. Switch off the engine. Allow the agent to act for 30 minutes. Start the engine. Open the car windows. Switch on recirculation, blower fan switch on maximum speed and temperature selector to maximum heat. Allow the engine to run for ten minutes. This allows the agent to dry and form a protective layer.
